Limassol to Host International Conference “Climate Neutral Blue Cities by 2030” on 19–20 March 2026
On 19–20 March 2026, Limassol will host the international conference “Climate Neutral Blue Cities by 2030: Accelerating Local Change – Limassol on the Path to Climate Neutrality” at The Warehouse by IT Quarter.
Organised by the Municipality of Limassol within the framework of the EU Mission: 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030, supported by the EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters, and held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, the conference will bring together European institutions, Mission Cities, port authorities, researchers, businesses, investors and civil society.
Designed as a high-level platform for dialogue, collaboration and knowledge exchange, the event focuses on how port and coastal cities can accelerate their transition to climate neutrality through practical, mission-driven action. As a rapidly developing Mediterranean coastal city and EU Mission City, Limassol offers a compelling real-world case of how “Blue Cities” can lead the way in aligning urban development, port activity and environmental responsibility.
Key themes to be explored include:
- Decarbonization of ports and urban systems
- Energy transition through renewable energy and smart grids
- Sustainable urban mobility
- Coastal resilience and climate adaptation
- Financing instruments and investment models for climate-neutral cities
The programme will highlight Limassol’s pathway to climate neutrality by 2030, addressing port–city integration, climate-smart maritime operations, smart infrastructure, digital innovation, inclusive urban development and the role of public space and urban design inspired by the New European Bauhaus. Particular emphasis will be placed on public–private partnerships, social cohesion, energy justice and collaborative governance models connecting cities, ports, research, business and communities.
Participants will gain practical insights into how EU policies and Mission objectives translate into local implementation, learn from leading European examples, and engage with funding, investment and partnership opportunities at the intersection of cities, ports and the blue economy.
